Maxime Beaumont winner in K1 Senior Men

The 2012 edition of Portugal Winter Trial 2012 - Nelo Winter Challenge is over after a full weekend of competitions at Montemor-o-Velho regatta course.


More than 500 paddlers from 20 countries competed in this event, including some of the best in the world, like Natasa Janics and Atilla Vajda from Hungary.
Yesterday, March 3rd Fernando Pimenta from Portugal was the fastest in the 2000 meters race, doing 7:43.64, followed by Emanuel Silva, Also from Portugal with 7:54.08. The 3rd was Ilya Medvedev from Russia.


In Canoe, Beugnet Romain from France took the gold, after completed the 2000 meters in 9:12.56. Attila Vadja from Hungary and Mathieu Beugnet also from France were 2nd and 3rd.

In the ladies section, Natasa Janics from Hungary was the winner with 9:17.05, followed very close by Teresa Portela from Portugal with 09:17.58. The podium was completed with Beatriz Gomes, with 9:18.66.

Today in the 200 meters race it was expected a huge fight for the gold in all categories, and we had a lot of emotion during the finals, with the gold being decided just by some centimeters.

In K1 Senior Men, Mark Jonge from Canada and Maxime Beaumont from France disputed the most intense final, with the Canadian taking the gold just by .003 seconds.
João Ribeiro, the best Portuguese in the 200 meters was disqualified after two false starts in the Semi-Finals.


In C1 Senior Men, Oleksandr Maksymchuk from Ukraine as the winner in another very competitive Final with the first 4 paddlers separated by less than  one second. Alfonso Benavides from Spain and Thomas Simart from France were 2nd and 3rd.


In K1 Women Senior, Marta Walczykiewicz from Poland took the gold, after beating the Olympic and World  Champion Natasa Janics, from Hungary. Teresa Portela, the 3rd world  best female paddler in 2010 was 3rd, with more 1.022 seconds.


In the end of the competition and overall winner of the event, in K1 Senior Men was Maxime Beaumont from France with a total of 6 points. He was second in 200 meters and 4th in the 2000.
Goubel Mathieu from France was Natasa Janics from Hungary were the overall winnesr in C1 Senior Men nad K1 Senior Woman.

The international races return to Montemor-o-Velho in July 2013 with the organization of ECA Canoe Sprint European Championship from Juniors and Under 23.
