This event will be the 3rd Canoe Sprint World Cup at this venue, after the editions of 2015 and 2016 and the 4th ICF Canoe Sprint event, including the juniors & under 23 World Championships in 2015.
This year we will be hosting the first world canoe sprint competition of the Tokyo 2020 cycle and for that reason our theme is TOKYO 2020 starts here.
A reminder to all the community, this will be the last event at this venue before the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in 2018, the first ever Senior ICF canoe sprint event to be hosted in Portuguese territory, after the 2009 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships in crestuma.
With a new cycle and a new Olympic program for Tokyo 2020, the local organization has not year the detail info about the complete program for this world Cup season, but we are sure this should be published within the next days/weeks by the International Canoe Federation.
There are even some expectations about new formats for the world cups in Canoe sprint, already in 2017, according to the ICF summit hosted in Germany last November.
Nerveless, the Portuguese Canoe Federation and the city hall of Montemor-o-Velho are already working hard to improve the conditions at the venue for the next two years, and once again raise the level of the events in canoe sprint to a new and more modern level.
